Job summary
The Consultant Nurse in Dermatology will also lead and empower the CNS Team, support staff and managers in Dermatology, to ensure effective Dermatology agendas are implemented and embedded in the service and are reflective of the national public health agendas.
They will act as an expert advisor internally and externally to the Trust. They will work in partnership with multidisciplinary agencies within and external to the Trust to ensure safe and effective care for patients is delivered.
Evidence of qualifications will be required at interview and during compliance checks.
Main duties of the job
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a new Consultant Nurse role in Dermatology. We are looking for a passionate candidate to lead the Dermatological nursing services within the Trust as a Consultant Nurse. The post holder is responsible for developing a specialist service for patients with dermatology conditions and their carers and families, in line with key national and local policy documents.
The post holder is expected to work in partnership with the Consultant Dermatologists and the Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team. The post holder will undertake independent prescribing for their own caseloads within the limits of the post holder's competence and the requirements of role. They will lead the service, staff development, providing education, using their expert experience and knowledge and will be research active, leading the development of excellent care provision in Dermatology across the trust. They will make a significant contribution to the Clinical Governance agenda and will provide advice on best practice and proactively support and develop staff.

1. To work closely with medical consultant colleagues and academic institutions to lead on education, research, and practice to continually develop an equitable, standardised, high quality medical dermatology service.
2. To develop and lead dermatology research projects and academic activities in close collaboration with colleagues at relevant academic institutions.
3. To contribute to and where appropriate, lead new initiatives that are developments and innovations between the service, and relevant external agencies, locally, nationally, and internationally.
4. Undertake consultative work that has importance locally, nationally, and internationally for the advancement of dermatology practice.
5. Practice at an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability that is within national guidelines, Trust policies and NMC Codes of Conduct.
To independently receive and make referrals and lead the management of own caseload for dermatology patient treatment, diagnosis and follow up across health care settings.
To utilise advanced clinical reasoning skills and evidence-based knowledge in the management of patients with highly complex presentations and to be clinically competent to utilise expert skills and knowledge in a variety of clinical settings.
