From health technologies and pharmaceuticals to sustainable food and materials innovations, we turn the entrepreneurial spirit and radical thinking of our people and partners into incredible impact that makes our world a better place.
Why this role is important for CPI’s work CPI has an opportunity for a Scientist to join the established technical transfer team based at the Wilton Centre, Redcar. The team specialises in interpreting, scaling up and transferring customer knowledge and processes to large scale fermentation plants, working in every area of the Biotechnology platform, including but not limited to; Fermentation from small scale to pilot scale (1 L to 10,000 L) working in the labs and across all plants.
The Role This is a highly varied role with every day being different and challenging with multiple projects often running at once. It’s a great opportunity to experience all aspects of a fermentation process across multiple scales, whilst also gaining leadership skills. Training provided is fast-paced and vast, resulting in a breadth of experience and knowledge across multiple areas of discipline in a short period of time.
Key tasks in the role will include (but are not limited to):
1. To technically support fermentation processes up to 10,000 litre scale, including microbiological testing, offline fermentation analysis and seed generation.
2. To support the set-up and operation of microbial fermentation processes including batch and fed-batch fermentations following predefined protocols.
3. To monitor the critical fermentation parameters, escalating issues as they arise and monitoring the recovery of the fermentation.
4. To support the process operators with the bio-product recovery and purification operations from laboratory to plant scale.
5. To support the routine maintenance of fermenters, identifying and escalating issues which may impact their performance and availability.
6. To ensure analysis equipment is maintained and calibrated as required allowing for accurate measurements in a timely manner.
7. To support with internal and external customers as required identifying and understanding their needs and contributing to the design and delivery of agreed outcomes within agreed timescales.
