It is the base of operations for HMRC Eastern region and houses staff who find it easy to commute in from in and around Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex.You will be working in Brooke Lawrance House, which is in the heart of Ipswich town centre. We are on the 5th, 6th & 7th floors, that have panoramic views of the town and surrounding area. Which you can enjoy from our newly refurbished modern offices and refreshment/rest areas. The building also has a canteen on the ground floor, that is owned by the landlord, that is available to use.Job descriptionAs building manager you will have day to day responsibility for ensuring that our people and facilities on our floors are kept safe and in operation.Your core duties will consist of looking after any health & safety issues as well as building management issues, by overseeing and leading on these activities. To ensure that the building has the appropriate control measures that are stipulated in HMRCs' policies.As the Incident Control Officer, for our office, you will be required to manage and lead on our evacuation and incident control processes.You will also be liaising with the Regional Building Security Manager and his wider team about general security issues. To assist with successfully implementing our access control, Incident and Business Continuity policies and processes.The job also entails regularly dealing with various general building management enquiries.Although your main duties will be in Brooke Lawrance House, there are also a few small building units close to the main office, that don't have any permanent staff presence, that you will care for too.Good people skills are essential for this job. As you will be the face of the Estates team in Ipswich. You must be confident in your decision-making abilities and will also be expected to have exceptional customer skills. To enable you to directly assist and support those working and visiting the building.As part of the Workplace Operations team, you will be working closely and alongside the onsite Ipswich Estates Facilities Manager. You will also be part of a wider team and your other colleagues will be mainly based at Stratford Regional Centre. They will also be on hand to offer their experience and assistance to help you effectively manage the day to day running of this specialist site.This role is NOT suitable for existing HMRC employees who are contractual homeworkers. The person will be required to attend the office at least 3 days a week.HMRC Estates is preparing to mobilise our new national Facilities Management contracts that will deliver building services across our estate from May 2025. This will see us move from having separate Hard/Soft FM Suppliers to a Total Facilities Management delivery model, which may result in changes to how this role is delivered.Person specificationYou will be working in a unique environment as your line manager will be in Stratford. Therefore, we need someone with the drive, determination, and self-confidence to be able to run this site and make decisions independently.We want you to bring your wealth of experience and knowledge to Ipswich, be able to support the estates team around you, challenge the way we think and work with us to improve how we run our buildings.To succeed and thrive in this role, you need to have recent experience of: Building Management.Health and Safety.Incident Control & Business Continuity Management.Working within a property profession / facilities management discipline.Essential Criteria: Demonstrable experience of working competently within a Building Management or Building Contract Management Environment.Have experience of applying Health and Safety policy and standards in the workplace. Most importantly, such as risk assessment processes.Good Incident Control management skills and experience of using them in the workplace in an emergency situation.Previous experience of working within a Property Profession or Facilities Management discipline. Desirable Criteria: It is preferred that external candidates do have NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent NQF/QCF level 3 (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) / SCQF Level 6 (Scotland), in Health and Safety Management. Alternatively, the NEBOSH qualification must be completed, by external or internal candidates, within 2 years of appointment.
