Job Description
We are currently recruiting for a Social Media and Online Content Manager to join our Communications team.
This role is key to shaping Glyndebourne’s digital presence and is responsible for developing and implementing an online content and social media strategy that enhances brand engagement, drives audience growth, and strengthens connections with both existing and new, diverse audiences.
The role manages the organisation’s core social media and digital channels, working in partnership with the Content team which produces content in-house. Combining creative storytelling with data-driven insights, the position oversees online content planning, curation and publishing across social media, the website and paid campaigns. It also collaborates closely with the CRM lead on content for email marketing.
This dynamic role supports the organisation’s mission by delivering engaging, high-quality content that deepens audience relationships while contributing to Glyndebourne’s wider marketing objectives.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Content strategy and management
* Develop and implement a comprehensive online content strategy that reflects Glyndebourne’s mission and brand values, including a rolling 12-month content calendar for digital platforms.
* Oversee the planning and publishing of engaging content across Glyndebourne’s website, social media channels and email campaigns.
* Act as a brand guardian, ensuring all online content aligns with tone, voice and visual identity guidelines.
* As a key owner of the online personality for Glyndebourne, take responsibility for writing all copy, proofing and publishing all social media posts.
* Collaborate with other areas of the marketing team and our paid media agency to optimise the website’s content architecture, ensuring accessibility, audience relevance, and seamless user experiences.
* Tailor content to appeal to a diverse range of audiences, balancing the needs of loyal members with the goal of attracting new and diverse demographics.
* Steer new website development – prioritising requirements, writing briefs and evaluating the most effective solutions for optimum user experience.
* Work with the Director of Audiences and Senior Press Manager during times of reputation risk or crisis for the organisation, managing the execution and the moderation of activity to ensure a timely escalation.
Social media strategy and execution
* Develop and execute a social media strategy to grow audiences, drive engagement, and foster community across platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok and emerging channels.
* Plan and implement creative social media campaigns that integrate with broader marketing strategies, supporting ticket sales, memberships and audience development.
* Actively monitor and engage with social media communities, responding to interactions and fostering positive relationships.
* Stay informed on trends, competitor activity, and platform innovations, applying best practices to Glyndebourne’s social media presence.
Audience-centric analytics and reporting
* Use analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite) to measure the effectiveness of content and campaigns, reporting regularly on key performance indicators.
* Provide actionable insights to inform strategy, optimise campaigns, and improve audience engagement.
* Work closely with the data and insight team to analyse audience behaviours, ensuring that content planning is data-led and audience-focused.
Creative collaboration
* Partner with the Content team in the production of digital assets, including creative idea generation, briefing content teams, quality checking assets, content optimisation, ensuring content accessibility.
* Develop strands of content that highlight Glyndebourne’s artistic achievements, behind-the-scenes moments, and community impact.
* Collaborate across departments, including marketing, press and PR, audience insight, content, box office, education and development, to align content strategies with organisational goals.
* Support the wider marketing team in delivering cohesive campaigns that connect all digital touchpoints.
Team leadership and development
* Manage and mentor the Marketing Assistant, providing guidance on content creation, scheduling, and analytics to support their professional development.
* Develop processes to engage staff across the organisation to contribute to digital storytelling, ensuring consistency in brand representation.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
* Proven experience in online content strategy, social media management, and digital marketing, with a focus on audience engagement and brand consistency.
* Strong editorial and storytelling skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to produce engaging, audience-focused content.
* Significant copywriting experience, specifically for digital audiences.
* Experience in video content commissioning, an understanding of the approach and management of the delivery.
* Expertise in using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, platform insights) to evaluate performance and inform strategy.
* Experience with content management systems (such as WordPress CMS) and a strong understanding of website optimisation and user experience.
* Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop), Figma or similar tools for visual content creation.
* Experience in using Meta Business Suite, for managing our social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
* Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
* A collaborative approach, with strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across departments.
Desirable
* Familiarity with the arts sector, particularly opera or classical music, and a passion for making the arts accessible to diverse audiences.
* Experience managing live streaming or digital event delivery.
* Knowledge of SEO best practices and digital advertising platforms.
* Previous experience in capturing handheld content for social channels.
Hours of Work
The contractual hours of work are 35 hours per week 9:30am – 5:30pm Monday – Friday with a one hour lunch break.
Salary and Benefits
We can offer a salary of up to £38,000 per annum dependent on experience.
We offer 33 days (6.6 weeks) holiday inclusive of bank holidays per year.
