This includes transitioning the BBC to a data product organisation, evolving our data architecture and embedding data capabilities company wide. To help us progress along that journey, the recently created Data Governance function, which sits within Product Group, plays a crucial part.

As the Senior Data Governance Manager, you will play a crucial role in structuring and governing our data to drive meaningful actions and insights.
By establishing a robust data governance framework, you will empower teams to maximise the value derived from our data.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
You will play an influential role helping to shape and implement data governance at the BBC. You will work closely with data domain owners and stewards and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth integration of data management capabilities and services delivering the best data governance experience to our stakeholders and colleagues.
Specifically, you will be responsible for these activities:
1. Support the data governance lead to effectively drive the successful implementation of data governance initiatives across the BBC,
2. Develop frameworks for organising and categorising data domains to effectively embed data governance and data management initiatives
3. Support engagement with business stakeholders across multiple domains on implementing and assuring data governance and data management best practice,
4. Drive and own data governance initiatives as part of data domain squads comprising experts across the data domain, data governance and related forums to ensure data ownership practices and data governance policies are adhered to,
5. Develop monitoring and measuring capabilities to be used by data role holders and data governance teams to track and report effectiveness of data governance initiatives,
6. Work closely with business stakeholders and data owners and stewards to identify critical data assets and drive the implementation of data governance and data management controls across these critical assets,
7. Support in orchestrating forums and managing ownership structures to address data governance issues effectively,
8. Support data role holders, including data engineers and SMEs in interpreting policies to guide data governance practices, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements,
9. Provide support in testing and validating the effectiveness of key controls within data governance policies, ensuring robust and compliant practices,
10. Stay informed about market trends and emerging technologies in data governance, providing valuable insights and actively contributing to data governance innovation across the BBC
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
5+ years of proven expertise in delivering data governance and data ownership initiatives in complex organisations,
11. Demonstrated understanding of data governance principles, policies, best practices and industry trends,
12. Possess an aptitude for analysis and working knowledge of developing and implementing data governance key metrics and dashboards,
13. Familiarity with data governance technologies, tools, and standards e.g. Alation, Collibra; Soda, Great Expectations, DBT
14. Experience in working with cloud-based data platforms e.g. Redshift
15. Strong track record in supporting the implementation of data governance and management initiatives,
16. Proficiency in collaborating with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders to drive improvements in establishing data governance frameworks,
17. Excellent communication skills and a strong track record in building lasting and positive relationships that have supported the successful delivery of data governance initiatives
Highly Regarded Skills
18. Proficiency in complex dataset management and high-level programming languages such as SQL (desirable but not essential)
19. Data visualisation tools (PowerBI, Tableau or similar)
