Executive Officer (Lord Speaker’s Office)
We are looking for an Executive Officer for the Lord Speaker’s Office in the House of Lords. In this exciting position you will provide a high level of support to the Lord Speaker and his office. This is an exciting opportunity to work onsite in the Palace of Westminster.
This is a fantastic opportunity for candidates who want to focus on providing administrative support to the panel of Deputy Speakers and office management support to the Lord Speaker’s Office as a whole. If you’re looking for a role where you will interact regularly with individual Members and senior officials, we would love to hear from you.
You’ll be responsible for:
* Acting as the main point of contact for the Deputy Speakers, including arranging weekly rotas and arranging meetings, including drafting agendas.
* Managing the flow of documents including correspondence and invoices, commissioning briefing from other teams and offices where required, and following up requests as necessary.
* Maintaining good awareness of the work of the House and its Administration.
* Answering general queries from Lords members and other stakeholders.
* Undertaking general office management tasks and other duties to support the work of the Lord Speaker alongside the Private Office.

* Collaboration and Teamwork - Effective team working skills, with an ability to share best practice and to show flexibility towards covering the work of the Private Office.
* Building Working Relationships - Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships, both orally and in writing, with a broad range of people at all levels within the Administration.
* Problem Solving and Attention to detail– Excellent attention to detail with proven administrative skills. Experience of using initiative to solve problems.
* Professionalism, Tact and Discretion - Excellent judgement and the ability to use tact and discretion at all times.
* Prioritisation and Delivering at Pace – The ability to prioritise own workload and experience of working under pressure and on one’s own initiative to tight deadlines.
* Knowledge and experience of IT systems - Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel.

* An understanding of the role of the Deputy Speakers in supporting the Lord Speaker’s role in the Chamber.
