What is the job role?
In your role, you will be under the general direction of the Street Enforcement Manager, to support management in delivering services under Council policies and priorities.
You will deal with various environmental quality issues such as fly-tipping, commercial and domestic waste enforcement, nuisance vehicle complaints, littering, and fly posting, as well as coordinating the City's response to any unauthorised traveller encampments.
The role also encompasses various Anti-Social Behaviour [ASB] issues and neighbour disputes including statutory nuisance complaints about domestic noise, light, odour, and bonfire complaints.
Within this role you will undertake a hugely varied caseload and using appropriate legislation you will take all appropriate courses of action including education, mediation, enforcement and prosecution under different legislative powers.
This role includes weekend work and you will receive a 10% shift allowance.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health, with an emphasis on Environmental Crime, Anti-social Behaviour, Highways, and Noise legislation. You should understand the principles of customer care and quality and can communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing with people from a range of backgrounds.
You will need to be able to:
1. Effectively manage a demanding workload and deal with conflicting priorities.
2. Use of the Microsoft Office software suite to produce word-processed documentation including letters and reports to a high standard.
3. Devise, implement and evaluate successful projects.
4. Influencing, persuading, and negotiating skills and the ability to deal effectively with conflict and aggression.

Special requirements for this role include being able to work on an ‘on-call rota, shift patterns including some night/weekend day working, and bank holidays as required. You must also hold a full driving license and the ability to travel around a wide area of the city to complete district work.
