Could you be a SEND Tutor at Sense College?
We’re looking for a passionate and creative SEND teacher to join our professional team as Special Education Needs and Disability Tutors at our College Centre based in Streatley. We would welcome applications from experienced SEND teachers as well as those looking for a development opportunity.
The successful applicants will be working with a small group of students aged 16-25 with a range of learning, sensory and physical disabilities. You will write individual learning plans based on thorough assessment and outcomes included in the individual Education, Health and Care Plans of students. You will plan and deliver lessons and assess and report on student’s progress. The Send Tutor will lead a classroom team delivering learning to a small group using specialist teaching approaches and resources. You will direct and coach learning support staff to ensure high quality teaching and learning and monitor performance. You will be part of a wider team of SEND Tutors sharing good practice and forming a network of professional support. Key responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for a small group of SEND students aged 16-19
2. You will lead on an area of the curriculum ensuring it is up to date, relevant and meeting the needs of all students
3. To carry out specialist assessments to determine key learning aims for students
4. You will work with the Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality to provide mentoring support to new and developing members of the education team
5. You will carry out observations and learning walks as part of your mentoring role and to support wider college quality improvement
6. You will deliver training on your lead area and others to ensure staff have the knowledge and skills to deliver the curriculum and support the learning of all students
7. Represent the college at EHCP reviews and reviews of learning with parents, taster days, open days and transition events
Your required skills and experiences:
8. Higher level teaching qualification e.g. Certificate in Education or Post Graduate Certificate Education (PGCE) Level 5
9. Diploma English and Maths Level 2
10. Have an understanding of the needs of young people with a range of special education needs
11. Ability to use assessment to plan and review learning
12. Ability to model professional and positive behaviour for staff and students
13. Communicates effectively, inter-personally and in writing
14. Ability to support students with positive behavioural support
15. Experience in teaching environment and working as part of an education team
