The Biological Research Facility at the Francis Crick Institute is looking for a confident, enthusiastic, and proactive aquarist with experience in freshwater fish husbandry (zebrafish Danio rerio, Xenopus laevis, and/or livebearer (guppy) husbandry. Prior experience in an aquarium, zoo, or laboratory setting is preferred; however, we are willing to further develop the right candidate.
The successful candidate will be required to work in the Aquatics unit performing daily husbandry, animal welfare checks, maintaining records with Microsoft Excel and ARMIS database, and simple life support maintenance. The role is key to ensuring the production of new generations of zebrafish while providing excellent customer service to scientists whose research we support. There will be opportunities to cross-train in frogs and guppy rooms once probation has been passed.
The ideal candidate would have experience in an animal care setting. Strong interpersonal skills, alongside a desire to learn and attention to detail, are key as the role involves teamwork, daily animal observation, and routine scientist interactions. Candidates must be able to stand for long periods and will spend a majority of their time feeding and cleaning tanks in their first year.
This is a salaried position, with a starting salary of £25,755 with benefits subject to skills and experience working 36 hours/week, including weekend and bank holiday working duties (done on a rota basis). Salary rises to £29,500 upon completion of your Institute of Animal Technology Level 2 diploma after one year.
