Engineering Database Technician

Role:
Engineering Database Technicians process a wide range of data as it arrives directly from the client, preparing the data for the project teams to work on. They are effectively undertaking the first phase of the data cleansing process. The data arrives in various formats, including Excel spreadsheets, Access databases etc. and must be prepared and loaded into in-house software.
Key results/Responsibilities:
Implement generic processes for the import of all information sets provided by the Client
Implement generic processes for the export of all information sets requested by the Clients for use in their enterprise / corporate systems
Use SQL Server tools (SSIS, SSRS, etc)
‘Can do’ attitude and be able to come up with lateral solutions to problems
Using your technical capabilities together with understanding of engineering / project requirements to feed into future strategies
Ensuring quality, continuous improvement and development, standards and procedures are adhered to
Control the receipt of all raw engineering data
Prepare the data for import into the database
Carry out all data manipulation tasks whilst establishing and preserving the requisite audit trail
Become knowledgeable with data manipulation and reporting tools and to provide a data support role to all projects.
Pro-actively improve and develop existing tools and techniques to improve the performance of the company
Skills to be Demonstrated in the Role:
Ensure that all data manipulation activities are carried out in a controlled manner without risk to both the project data and the corporate data
Ensure that the data manipulation tools and procedures are current and effective
Promote the skills and service to all projects to ensure that best practices prevail and the company performs efficiently and cost effectively
Provide a timely service to the projects
Working on a wide range of engineering data arriving in a variety of formats, quality standards and file sizes
Ensuring that all manipulation work is fully understood so that good work is not lost by bulk queries
Understanding the full data model and the existing processes
Having the discipline to document procedures
Any Other Relevant Information:
Must have a good work ethic and be self-motivated. The role involves working with others and providing a timely and accurate service so good communication skills are essential.
The candidate must respect quality control and establish good audit trails.
Educational Background:
Qualification in Engineering or IT subjects an advantage.
Relevant Experience:
Previous experience of managing and manipulating large quantities of data would be advantageous.
A good understanding of database management would be advantageous.
A good working knowledge of SQL.
A working knowledge of Access and Excel.
SQL server knowledge is desirable.
Previous experience of working in an Engineering environment would be advantageous.
