We are delighted to be working with an established, construction business, who are seeking an experienced and dynamic Transport Planner to join their busy team based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
In this role, you will be responsible for planning and optimising the delivery routes for their fleet of circa 50 vehicles, ensuring efficient and timely transportation across various geographical locations and postcodes.
This is a fast-paced role that requires excellent organisational skills, quick problem-solving abilities, and the flexibility to adapt to constantly changing workloads.
Please note, previous experience in Transport Planning is essential for you to be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
•Route Planning & Optimization: Create efficient delivery schedules and route plans for drivers, optimizing the use of vehicles to minimize costs and maximize productivity. Daily multi drop routing of vehicles across multiple depots.
•Workload Management: Handle a high volume of daily tasks and manage fluctuating workloads while maintaining high accuracy and efficiency.
•Geographical Knowledge: Use your understanding of geographical areas, routes, and postcodes to ensure effective delivery planning.
•Vehicle Utilisation: Monitor and optimise the use of the company's fleet to improve operational efficiency. Organise deliveries according to customer demands. Monitor vehicle progress throughout the day and make decisions on re-routing accordingly.
•Coordination & Communication: Liaise with internal departments such as Warehouse, Sales, and Customer Service to ensure smooth communication of issues such as referencing volume, weight, space, capacity etc and resolve any issues before they occur.
•Problem Solving: Quickly respond to changing delivery schedules, unexpected issues, and last-minute adjustments while maintaining a high level of service.
•Compliance: Ensure all delivery activities adhere to legal requirements, safety regulations, and company policies. Consider drivers working time regulations, tacho hours and any other restriction when routing vehicles.
Essential Requirements:
•Proven experience in transport planning, route planning, and optimisation within a fast-paced environment.
•Strong understanding of geographical locations and postcodes.
•Ability to manage changing workloads and multitask effectively.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
•Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and route optimisation software.
•Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
•Flexibility to work in a dynamic and ever-evolving environment.
•Knowledge of legal compliance in transport and fleet management.
•Experience working with large fleets.
Additional Information:
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:30 17:30
Salary: Competitive based on experience
