Our client, a renowned company in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Principal Safety & Reliability Engineer to join their team in support of their general systems value stream. This permanent role involves guiding reliability and safety engineering within a multi-disciplinary project team, ensuring that engineering designs adhere to safety, maintainability, and reliability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Take full technical responsibility for milestones, document deliverables, and on-time, complete delivery.
2. Optimise system and product design for safety and reliability, and provide trade study data.
3. Collaborate with the Systems Engineering Lead to develop compliant system architectures.
4. Develop safety and system-level architecture requirements for new systems.
5. Provide analysis and data for new product introduction projects.
6. Prepare proposal sections for new equipment and support system studies.
7. Implement lessons learned from previous in-service experiences.
8. Investigate in-service failures and support the Product Integrity Committee (PIC) and Product Safety Board (PSB).
9. Participate in design reviews and assess design changes' impact on reliability and safety.
10. Specify reliability and safety requirements for system components.
11. Develop standard work, lessons learned, processes, and best practices for reliability and safety.
12. Specify special test requirements to meet reliability and safety standards.
13. Support risk analysis activities and identify mitigation methods.
14. Provide technical expertise and guidance on reliability and safety across projects, mentoring junior engineers.
Job Requirements:
Essential Skills:
1. Capable of analysing systems at both unit and detailed design levels.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to relate well to all stakeholders.
3. Knowledgeable in current aerospace standards, certification requirements, and Fault Tree Analysis and FMEA software.
Desirable Skills:
1. Engineering/mathematics background with expertise in reliability and safety engineering.
2. Proficient in Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
3. Good understanding of mechanical and electronic engineering.
4. Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
5. Ability to derive system designs from safety requirements and recommend design changes.
6. Experienced in interpreting, organising, executing, and coordinating milestones and document deliverables.
7. Capable of performing maintainability and occasional Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) analyses.
8. Highly motivated and committed to high personal and professional integrity.
