The team
ITV manages a catalogue of 250,000+ hours of television programmes and feature films produced by the ITV companies or commissioned/acquired from third parties for broadcast and distribution. Effective management of the rights data that
informs availability of these assets underpins the company’s commercial strategies for the exploitation and re-use of content throughout the world via multiple distribution channels.
As part of the wider Legal Team, the Rights Management department works to provide all areas of the business, and ITV’s strategic partners, with visibility and access to its content, “what have we got, and what can we do with it?” The department engages with many areas of the business that need rights availability and cost information in order to licence content – including via internal trading. Licensing of content itself leads to payment and reporting obligations that also rely on accurate rights data.
The role
The Senior Rights Executive - Digital works with the Rights Manager - Digital to promote the widest possible exploitation of ITV’s content by recording and maintaining rights data, advising on the availability and cost of exploiting rights and supporting ITV’s sales and distribution arms through the documentation, governance and administration of rights exploitation.
Key responsibilities:
1. Work alongside the Rights Manager - Digital to have an oversight across activity being undertaken and requested of the Rights Digital team.
2. Be responsible for the interpretation, input and verification of rights information for all ITV content into ITV’s rights and talent payment systems in accordance with agreed policies and standards
3. Assess availability and offer accurate clearance and cost information to all exploitation areas within company deadlines
4. Assisting ITV’s sales and distribution arms with the creation and maintenance of licences where necessary
5. Support the Rights Manager to monitor adherence to policies and standards in line with the relevant KPIs
6. Maintain strong working relationships with partners to ensure the continual flow of rights information into the department
7. Work closely with Talent and Royalty Payments offering authority to pay by inputting and verifying rights and talent data in the relevant systems
8. Working closely with the Head of Rights Management and the Rights Manager, have input into system development and design related to Rights Management activity.
9. Provide solutions to rights clearance and cost issues and where necessary undertake rights renewals and risk assessments through discussion with the Head of Rights Management and Rights Manager.
10. Deliver Service in accordance with any Service Level Agreements that are managed by Rights.
11. Keep abreast of rights & talent union issues through information circulated within Rights and Business Affairs.
12. Maintain a strong understanding of new media platforms, social media distribution, and how these are a key part of ITV’s business strategy
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
13. Experience in Rights Management
14. Commercial awareness and an ability to balance and assess risk, sales urgency, and business expectations from a Rights perspective
15. Excellent organisational and information management skills
16. Driven, with an interest in TV and new and evolving platforms
17. Supervisory skills with an ability to have oversight of activity across a team
18. Service excellence and networking skills - effective communication, interpersonal and influencing skills with an ability to build successful working relationships at all levels
19. Accuracy and an eye for detail
20. Strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
21. Experienced user of the PARIS and Genersys systems (or equivalent rights systems)
