Where will I be working?
Our services in Thornton provide a 24 hour facilities in providing care for adults with Learning Disabilities and additional health issues.
Bungalow 8
We are a group of 5 people with learning disabilities who live together in a home that has room for 1 more person to move in with us in the near future. We enjoy spending time together but also have individual interests, to which we need support to be able to take part in.
We sometimes need 1-1 support to enable us to attend local social activities such as visiting the library, visiting parks, going out for meals or to go shopping. This is very much a hands-on job where no two days are the same.
Bungalow 10 -
This is very much a hands-on job where no two days are the same.
We are a group of 4 people with a learning disability who live together and have done so for a number of years. We all have individual interests but also like spending time together. We need support in order to take part in activities inside and outside of our home. At the moment we are hoping to have another 2 people who will come to live with us, once we find people who have similar interests and support needs.
Bungalow 11
We are a group of 5 males with learning disabilities who live together in a home that has room for 1 more person to move in with us in the near future. We enjoy spending time together but also have individual interests, to which we need support to be able to take part in.
Desirable but not essential – experience within the supported living/care sector.
Please note: in this service we support people with complex learning disabilities and there are high levels of personal care involved.
Training and Development
We offer training to all those who want to develop their skills and competencies not just in the care sector but in other areas too.
1. Level 2 and 3 Lead Adult Care Worker
2. Level 3 Operational Team Leader
Please note training will be offered after your probation period ends which is 6 months. Once you begin your training with us you will have your own coach who will support you through your programme.
Shift Patterns may look like this:
This is nights position with a shift time of 20:30 – 07:15.
Role Responsibility
What will I be doing?
Daily support we need from you:
3. Assisting with our personal care needs
4. To prepare food for us or with our involvement when we want
5. Support us with our food and drinks
6. Manual handling
7. Supporting us with medication including creams and lotions
8. Ensuring our record keeping is maintained to the highest standard, this will include finance records as these will be audited
9. Help us to manage our money safely
10. To help us keep our home clean and tidy
11. Ensuring our health and safety is maintained
12. Making sure we have an interesting and varied day
13. Liaising with the Landlord regarding our tenancies and any repairs
The Ideal Candidate
What skills and qualities do I need to have?
Knowledge of learning disabilities and complex needs is essential; it is also is essential is that you are:
14. Passionate, caring and enthusiastic
15. Flexible, patient and non-judgemental
16. A great team player with lots of energy
17. Able to demonstrate good communication skills, including understanding non-verbal communication
18. Able to complete the physical aspects of the role such as manual handling where needed
19. Transferable experience of helping people to manage anxiety
