Occupational Therapist - Disability 0-25 team £29.78 per hour (umb) Agile working between office, home and community 37 hours p/w Principal Job Purpose Responsible to: Team Manager, Disability (0-25) Team Responsible for: Working within the Disability (0-25) Team, delivering occupational services to children and young adults aged 0-25 in the community and within a variety of settings. Principal Accountabilities To comply with the relevant sections of the Authority's policy statement on Health, Safety and Welfare at Work To adhere to the principles of the Corporate Equality Policy and ensure commitment to anti-discriminatory practice. Key Responsibilities Effectively manage and prioritise occupational therapy referrals and caseload. Effective delivery of occupational therapy intervention. Work in partnership with outside agencies. Work with the Team Manager to develop and improve the occupational therapy service. Key Functions To provide detailed assessments for children and young people with a disability and their carers. To deliver a quality service in a variety of settings, including children and young people's homes, educational settings, and respite placements as appropriate. Liaise with colleagues in completing comprehensive assessments and care management of children with a disability within the team and other agencies as appropriate. Carry out manual handling risk assessments in accordance with manual handling operations regulations (1992) and the Health and Safety Work Act (1974), in order to promote safer handling environments. Advise and make appropriate recommendations on the provision of specialist equipment and minor and major adaptations. Liaise with the Team Manager to ensure the affective management of the day-to-day equipment budget. To consider and provide the least restrictive intervention which reduces the impact of disability and to promote independence. To maintain accurate and up-to-date records. Ensure service delivery is child centred and whenever possible considers the wishes and feelings of the child and young person. Attend and contribute to planning and review meetings for children and young people in need of Care and Support, Children Looked After and children on the Child Protection register. Ensure services are delivered within the principles and practices of the Equal Opportunities and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (2014). Liaise with colleagues in other organisations (such as Health Trust, Voluntary or Private Organisations), to share skills, knowledge, and practice, for the benefit of service users. Develop pathways and further improve integrated practices, with colleagues in other settings. Contribute to the ongoing review of service development within the team. Identify unmet needs and bring this to the attention of managers to inform the planning process. All work undertaken to comply with the British Association of Occupational Therapists Standards and Code of Ethics. Participate in regular individual and Team group supervision. Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal development. Attend training as required. Attend departmental meetings when required. Key Working Relationships Establish working partnerships with other professionals from Children's Services, Adult Services (Transition), Preventative Services (Families First), Health, Education, and the Third Sector as appropriate. Work in partnership with parents/carers and the children and young people who utilise the service. Work in partnership with Social Workers and Support Workers from the Disability (0-25) Team. Establish effective and professional support and guidance with the Pan Gwent SSD Occupational Team who meet on a bimonthly basis. Link in with the All-Wales Children and Young People OT network (AWCYPOTN). Attend monthly mentorship from an experienced Occupational Therapist within a Social Services Department children's setting. Attend monthly supervision with Team Manager of the Disability (0-25) Team. Working Environment The role of the Senior OT in the Disability (0-25) Team requires a high level of autonomy. The Senior OT role is a flexible post in accordance with the council's agile working policy. The Team work on an agile basis between the office, the community and home. There is a requirement to attend the office on a regular basis to promote team engagement and relationship, to attend team meetings, other meetings as appropriate, supervision, appraisals and training. Organisational responsibilities Understand and demonstrates the principles of confidentiality. Work within the policy and procedures of the council, including recognising the duty to protect vulnerable adults, children and young people. Understands and demonstrates commitment to the councils policies. The duties and responsibilities are difficult to define in detail and may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibilities entailed. The post holder is therefore expected to undertake such duties as made be requested.
