We have an exciting new opportunity for a Trainee Test Engineer to join our Technical department operating across our two manufacturing sites in the south east (Kent), reporting into the Design & Development Manager.
Position Summary:
An ideal opportunity for an aspiring engineer who is ready to begin their professional journey to become established within the engineering & manufacturing sector, learn new skills working across two of Swegon’s UK sites in Whitstable & Snodland, operating in a scientific / industrial setting.
The role focuses on product testing, data aggregation, design & test analysis, and publishing of performance data & operational characteristics for Swegon’s extensive range of Air Terminal Devices.
The successful candidate will be supported by our experienced engineers, working closely with the Sales and Marketing teams supporting new product development and active sales projects for bespoke products & challenging IEQ applications.
Future development opportunities could include, but are not limited to: 3D computer aided design, advanced data acquisition & programming, basic fluid mechanics/thermodynamics (relating to ‘air’), CFD simulation, basic mechanical principles, and FEA analysis.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Support of the workload running through Swegon’s test laboratories, and coordination of external testing.
2. Design, deliver, and report on test protocols to evaluate Swegon’s products within typical and customer specific operating environments with focus on airflow, draught & air pressure measurements, flow visualisation, and basic acoustic testing.
3. Project delivery of test programmes, data logging/analysis and report writing, recording, documenting, and archiving of all stages of testing and validation using data logging, photography, video, and written logs.
4. Ensure relevant and prevailing industrial standards, European norms, and building guides/regulations are followed. Routinely follow best practice for testing and validation, where necessary incorporating third party testing to ensure ‘duty of care’ is fully demonstrated.
5. Support the maintenance of in-house test facilities by tending to equipment, calibrating and maintaining the laboratory to ensure continued compliance and certification, while also providing recommendations to reduce the facility's environmental impact.
6. Supporting customer visits including Factory witness/compliance testing, product performance demonstrations, and on occasion supporting off site/third party testing.
7. Self-managed research & assisted learning, to develop personal skills & abilities relevant to the role, working towards distinction level achievements across all academic modules.
8. Facilitate and support clear and effective information flow among engineering, sales, and marketing teams, while regularly reporting to local management and participating in technical and development review meetings.
Experience:
Essential:
* Test design and practical test experience.
* Data acquisition, (empirically or using simulation/calculation software).
Desirable:
* Experience with 3D design is desired but not essential; training can be offered.
* An understanding of simulation software (CFD / FEA) – training can be offered.
Qualifications/Education:
Essential:
* GCSE pass grade C or above in: Maths, Sciences, English, Technology, IT/computer studies.
* Engineering BTEC / NVQ’s.
* Full UK drivers’ licence (with own means of transport & insured for business use).
Desirable:
* A-level Physics, A-level Maths, A-Level Technology, Engineering based degree / NVQ L3.
