This role has a starting salary of £27,970 per annum based on a 36 hour working week, across 39 weeks per year (term-time only) pro-rata to £32,512 full-time equivalent. We are excited to be hiring a new Safer Travel Support Officer to join our fantastic Safer Travel Team. The team are based in Woking, but cover the whole county. As a team we operate a hybrid style combining remote working with up to two days a week in the office to network with colleagues and attend team meetings. Rewards and Benefits

About the Team The Safer Travel Team are part of the wider Road Safety and Sustainable Schools Travel Team. We are a small team but committed, professional and outcome driven!The aim of the Road Safety and Schools Sustainable Travel Team is to reduce road casualties, reduce anti-social driving and promote more walking and cycling. This will be achieved through a variety of measures including highway safety engineering and infrastructure improvements, working with the police on the enforcement of road traffic law (particularly using safety cameras), and education, training and promotional campaigns to improve pedestrian and cycling skills and improved road user behaviour.The provision of pedestrian and cycle training and a large part of the promotion of active travel is via schools. The Safer Travel Team is integral to the promotion of active and sustainable travel through the production of school travel plans. The team work closely with a range of other teams in the council's Environment and Infrastructure Directorate, regularly responding to queries from County Council Members, schools, District and Borough colleagues and parish councils. About the Role In this role you will assist on our new flag ship schools initiative: 'Feet First: Walking Training', alongside our School Travel Plans Service. A nurturing team atmosphere will enable you to help develop and increase our achievements to date. No two days will be the same, dealing with schools and residents and helping to support the continued development and implementation of 'Feet Fist: Walking Training Scheme' for Surrey schools. We also assist in encouraging schools to achieve a 'Modeshift STARS School Travel Plan' through innovative recruitment techniques and provide continued support to Surrey schools who participate in this nationally recognised scheme.This is a customer facing service where the needs of our customers are at the centre of delivery. Shortlisting Criteria To be considered for shortlisting for this position your CV and answers to the questions below will clearly evidence:
8. Educated to A level or equivalent alternative
9. Knowledge of either pedestrian training or behaviour change programmes and school travel plans
10. Knowledge of approaches and methods used to change behaviours of individuals and organisations
11. Working knowledge of the Modeshift STARS School Travel Plan system
12. Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to build sound relationships with customers
13. Ability to prepare and present reports in a logical and digestible format with a methodical approach to information gathering and recording
14. High level administrative and organisational skills with good IT skills (including Powerpoint, Word and Excel)
15. Able to prioritise and plan own workload in the context of conflicting priorities and work on own initiative
