BROAD FUNCTION
The position is responsible for maintaining the plants instrumentation and electrical systems in a safe and reliable manner.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform maintenance and repair on plant field instrumentation and controls.
2. Establish and maintain a precise plant instrumentation calibration schedule.
3. Accept first line responsibility for field instrumentation, calibration, control valves, DCS, gas and steam turbine controls and systems as designated by Facility Manager.
4. Maintain thorough knowledge of plant logics and control schemes.
5. Maintain CEM in constant compliance (Calibrations and recordkeeping).
6. Assist in the operation of the combined cycle plant. Coordinate operations with the receiving electric company and maintain safe, efficient and dependable operation of the plant.
7. Maintain a thorough knowledge of all plant systems, operating and emergency response procedures, and the ability to execute procedures and equipment when necessary, and access the appropriate plant manuals.
8. Maintain a thorough knowledge of plant environmental emission parameters.
9. Clear all alarms by taking appropriate actions.
10. Assist in plant start-up, shut-down and equipment operations as necessary, including the turbines, HRSG, and all auxiliary equipment in accordance with operating instructions and procedures.
11. Receive and respond to electrical and fuel dispatcher's orders and requests.
12. Update maintain, and review required plant logs and records on a continuous basis, precisely and accurately. Control, monitor, record and chart plant performance and variances via computerized monitoring programs and other plant instrumentation.
13. Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the Control Room Operator in a timely manner.
14. Identify and diagnose process problems and adjust/correct within skill capabilities.
15. Assist in the training of new operators as required and, in the training, and development of Assistant Plant Operators.
16. Successfully complete company sponsored training courses and training and qualification programs as required. Ensure plant and equipment is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
17. Safely operate plant equipment including trucks, cranes, forklifts, and direct unloading of off-hour deliveries.
18. Monitor plant security, utilizing systems provided.
19. Insure accuracy of submitted defective equipment reports.
20. Insure all personnel within the plant adhere to safety guidelines.
21. Insure proper "Lock-out/Tag-out" procedures are followed. Monitor status.
22. Support maintenance and operations activities as required, including assisting in the testing and maintenance of systems and equipment.
23. Make use of the plant preventive maintenance program by processing and completing work orders to insure the upkeep and continued good performance of all plant equipment.
RELATIONSHIPS
24. Reports directly to and seeks advice, counsel, guidance and direction from the Facility Manager. While assisting in operations reports to the Control Room Operator.
25. Effectively communicates information to supervision and fellow operation and maintenance personnel, relative to the conditions of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvement.
26. Gives direction to maintenance personnel on matters pertaining to plant operations.
27. Develops and maintains harmonious working relationship with other company personnel and employees of other companies with whom direct contact is required.
SKILLS REQUIRED/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
28. Ability to work in a complex, high pressure, production-oriented environment.
29. Ability to work and communicate effectively with all plant personnel as well as client and other outside representatives.
30. Ability to encounter new and varied work situations sometimes extremely complex in nature.
31. Ability to perform duties independently with only general direction.
32. Physical requirements include but are not limited to: ability to lift (50) pounds, use hand tools and test instruments, working on feet for 12-hour periods, requiring extensive stair and ladder climbing including Combined Cycle and Simple Cycle stacks. Wearing of personal protective equipment in the performance of duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, etc.).
33. Position may require working varied shifts including weekend and holiday coverage. "On Call" status will be required.
34. Ability to read one-line engineering, PID and electrical drawings and schematics.
35. Ability to distinguish colors.
36. Ability to climb ladders with the use of safety harnesses and work at heights up to 170 feet.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
37. Massachusetts Second Class Fireman License or ability to obtain.
38. Five years’ experience in operations and/or maintenance of major power plant equipment.
39. Experience with digital control systems.
40. Computer skills desired.
41. Sound and orderly record keeping skills.
