Job description
Our client, a leading company in the Submarine Division, is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - (Maint Design - Software Analysis/Systems Support). This is a contract-based position with our client, BAE - Submarine Solutions (SS).
Key Responsibilities
1. Using BAES processes, analyse software products (COTS, Bespoke, Modified COTS) and derive software support strategies
2. Review software source documentation, interpret technical information, and derive written recommendations on how best to support the software product through life via the production of system level software support case reports
3. Support stakeholder engagement and attend collaboration working groups in support of BAES scope of work for maintenance design (software)
4. Provide software advice to the wider ILS community and support mapping activity between the BAE software analysis outputs and other key ILS stakeholders and their support outputs
The role holder is accountable for the following key deliverables:
5. Software analysis at a system level
6. Software analysis at the equipment level
7. Software support strategies per system
8. Software case reports
9. Provide input into Customer and Industry Partner Working Groups, from a software support perspective
10. Provide software support SME advice to other ILS stakeholders/teams
11. Production of management and process documentation relevant to software
Knowledge:
12. Considerable experience of the various Support Engineering disciplines
13. Considerable experience in the analysis of complex systems
Additionally for the Software Support Engineer:
14. Chartered Engineer or equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience with an ILS software support/engineering background
15. Understanding of JSP 935, DefStan 00-055, IEC 61508, DLF SSE GP.2.11 desirable
Skills:
16. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
17. Excellent IT skills
18. The ability to analyze complex problems specifically related to software support and identify the most critical support-related issues
Qualifications:
19. Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience in an Engineering discipline; Ideally CEng/IEng accredited or be actively working towards achieving this accreditation
20. In a Software Support role: Degree or equivalent skills, knowledge, and experience in the software support discipline
