Job summary
We are seeking a highly motivated, reliable and dynamic nursing assistant to join our Pre-Assessment team at Wansbeck General Hospital, to assist and support the Pre-Assessment nurse specialists and consultants within the Pre-Assessment clinics to deliver high standards of direct patient care .
To regularly perform ECG, venepuncture, swabs and observations for patients who are having elective surgery under GA
The post is offered on a permanent, part time hours per week basis. This will be predominantly Monday - Friday 08:00 - 15:00. Part time hours will be considered, consisting of 2 posts, one 13 hour post and a hour post.
The post is based at Wansbeck, but the successful may be required to work at our other departments in Alnwick, North Tyneside and Hexham Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist and support the Pre-Assessment nurse specialists and consultants within the Pre-Assessment clinics to deliver high standards of direct patient care
2. To regularly perform ECG, venepuncture, swabs and observations for patients who are having elective surgery under GA
3. To provide assistance and support to patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team
4. To maintain high clinical standards
5. To help maintain a clean and safe department environment

6. Accurately record all patient observations, blood sugar levels, ECG
7. Be able to perform venepuncture
8. Be able to use Trust Systems such as Synopsis and ICE
9. To promote health within the ward setting and to prepare clinical areas for procedures, Aseptic Technique.
10. To demonstrate safe manual handling of patients.
11. Assist in ensuring a clean, safe and pleasant department environment.
12. To adhere to trust policies.
13. To utilise trust resources effectively.
14. To contribute to the induction of nursing assistants.
15. Share knowledge and skills with all new members of staff, including students.
16. To complete staff surveys.
17. To take personal responsibilities for achieving agreed objectives through the appraisal process.

Qualifcation
Essential
18. Knowledge of care and related procedures, clinical observations, relevant legislation
19. Completion of a competency-based programme or equivalent relevant experience
20. Level 3 qualification in a healthcare related subject or a portfolio of equivalent demonstrable experience
