Wood is looking for an experienced Lead Planner for their Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK business due to significant growth. This role will lead the day-to-day of the Planning team to ensure all activities are executed on secured projects and those being tendered. Additionally, this role will support the development of the UK wide planning team to meet the expanding internal and client needs. Wood is committed to hybrid working which allows a combination between office and home working. The role can be based at any of Wood’s offices across the UK to suit the successful candidate, however preference may be given to those preferring to work from our Glasgow of Knutsford offices.
You will lead and ensure the Transmission & Distribution Planning team's delivery aligns with current policies and procedures. Developing the team's skills and knowledge to meet business needs is a key component of the role. Additionally, you will support the development of systems and technologies to enhance our efficiency, quality, and innovation. This opportunity has come about through growth driven by significant investment in the electricity market and need to increase quality of project controls supporting delivery of larger scale projects. To meet the need for a sustainable and secure development of the UK electricity supply, significant new build for transmission and distribution assets are essential. This is resulting in a surge in opportunities and a need to grow the transmission & distribution construction sector by approximately three times the current size. This level of resource maintains, under the current government and Electricity System Operator plans, this level to meet the 2050 targets.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support our growing workload and contribute to the increased network capacity required to deliver the UK government's pathway to 2030 and the transition to net zero. Working knowledge of the core principles of contracts, commercial and project management is essential. Proven experience of risk management processes and software tools such as Microsoft Project and Primavera are fundamental. This role will suit an experienced planner/ individual possibly from a medium sized construction company and/ or project delivery consultancy background looking to move their career towards a leadership role in the organisation. It will give scope to develop yourself and allow you to build your team during this dynamic time in the transmission and distribution sector. Preferably you will have experience of transmission projects under your belt but we’d also be open to hearing from individuals with relevant construction experience from other sectors including civils, rail, utilities, oil & gas, or petrochemicals. Experience of the NEC form of contract is important but not essential.
If you meet some but not all of the criteria, and you consider yourself as a good fit for Wood, we encourage you to apply as we will support you with development areas needed to help us thrive together.
