An opportunity has arisen within the Histopathology administrative team for an experienced, well-motivated and suitably qualified Medical Secretary/Clerical Officer at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust.
Working as part of a team across Pathology, you will contribute to the provision and further development of the high-quality diagnostic service.
The successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the administrative team to provide an efficient, effective and comprehensive administrative and secretarial support service for the Consultant Pathologists and Histopathology manager.
You should be highly motivated, a good communicator, and enjoy working as part of a Pathology-wide team. The department has a proven track record of staff development.
You will work in an office-based team environment using audio tape transcription and digital dictation of complex histopathology reports and correspondence. You will ensure prompt dispatch of surgical and post mortem reports, prepare meeting minutes, and collate slides for multi-disciplinary team meetings.
The post holder will act as a point of contact for communication with visitors and telephone enquiries from Coroners, the police, and other hospitals. You will be responsible for keeping accurate records and filing of reports, tissue blocks, and slides.
As one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions. In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales, and the Isle of Man.
Alder Hey has a thriving research portfolio and leads research into children’s medicines, infection, inflammation, and oncology. We are becoming recognised as one of the world’s leaders in children’s healthcare and research. We contribute to public health, lead cutting-edge research, and teach the next generation of children’s specialists.
The post-holder will provide a comprehensive administration service to Pathologists and their teams within the Histopathology Department. The administrator will be expected to work with the minimum of supervision, exercising independent judgement and using personal initiative based upon acquired knowledge in problematic situations in the absence of the Consultant.
The department administrator will be required to manage and prioritise their own workload without direct supervision and use their own initiative, but under the general supervision of the Administrative Team Leader.
