SENIOR BIOMEDICAL SCIENTISTS - HISTOPATHOLOGY - BACKBENCH
hours per week - flexible working options considered Band 7 + HCAS (see details below). Base - Surrey Histology Hub in Guildford (with occasional travel to other sites across Surrey)
We have recently extended our service and are looking for more people now to join our fantastic team. Are you a HCPC registered and looking for a new opportunity? Do you have at least 5 - 7 years post registration NHS histology experience in busy department? You will be an all-rounder senior BMS with specific responsibility for our Backbench area. The latter is responsible for efficient and accurate release of completed work to our consultants within the BSPS network. Hence the attention to details and marinating high standards is key for this role. You will receive a Royal Surrey welcome when you come and join us and start your induction
Main duties of the job
The post will be largely based at the RSCH in Guildford, with occasional rotation to one of the other BSPS Surrey Histopathology sites. Please note for Band 6 post we will require at least 3 years post-registration, UK histology experiences with in depth knowledge of histology processes.
What we can offer:o We will support in ensuring you can progress by supporting you in completing the IBMS Specialist Diploma and completion of the specialist We will train you to undertake dissection to category B and C in a sub-specialised manner, under the guidance of our Advanced Practitioner in Histological We have a dedicated Histology Training Officer with extensive and recent experience of IBMS Specialist Portfolio There are opportunities to study for online MSc modules via BioMed Online once trained to the appropriate level and as funding is released.

Job responsibilities
To supervise laboratory staff and contribute to the day to day management of the department. To be the senior in charge of the quality control area under the direction of the Deputy lead BMS/Advanced Practitioner with overall responsibility in this area.
To take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the backbench, HE600/MEGA Special staining and associated quality control section of the laboratory service under the direct supervision and in liaison with the Deputy Lead BMS/AP. To develop and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures within BSPS Histology in collaboration with other senior staff as appropriate in this area To supervise the performance of any relevant subordinate staff within BSPS Histology as appropriate in the QC area To be responsible for the day to day provision of the Histopathology technical service when working on the FPH, ESH or ASPH site, under the direction of the Lead BMS in Histology. To interview relevant job candidates and be involved in or lead the selection process, liaising with the Human Resource Department and laboratory management where necessary.

Qualifications
Essential
1. FIBMS, MSc, or equivalent experience in relevant discipline such as IBMS HSD or 7 years post registration experience
2. HCPC Registered BMS with CPD scheme participation
3. Experience of dissection/ training/quality mangment
4. Evidence of managerial/supervisory training/advanced technical expertise
Knowledge
Essential
5. Wide experience of CPA inspections and standards
6. Knowledge of ISO 15189
7. Knowledge of the training routes for BMS staff and of support staff qualifications
8. Experience of working in a large, busy department
