We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated theatre practitioner to join our theatre Band 7 leadership team. Applicants should have significant theatre scrub experience including Cardiac and Thoracic specialities. This postholder will lead on practice education and development for the scrub team and incorporate clinical practice within the role.
You will require strong leadership skills and a passion to deliver high quality in all aspects of nursing care. Providing visible, credible senior presence, you will be expected to lead on improvements across the theatre environment.
Barts Heart Centre has brought together the services of some of the best cardiovascular experts in the country who work together to create a single specialist centre for cardiovascular disease covering all our local communities and nationally. You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time, as we realise a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve services for today’s patients and future generations. We are proud of our world class cardiovascular, Thoracic robotics, Robotic Cardiac and ECMO service. We have recently developed our complex aorto-vascular service including TEVAR, FEVAR and a Thoraco-Abdominal Aneurysm repair service attracting patients from across the country. In addition to our cardiac and thoracic surgery, we perform endocrine, ENT and breast surgery on site with plans to further develop and increase our breast centre on the St Bartholomew’s site.

Main duties of the job
Act as an effective role model and provide professional and inspirational leadership to all members of the multi-disciplinary team within the areas for which they are accountable.
Deliver high quality in all aspects of nursing care and demonstrate transformational skills in order to drive improvements in both practice and learning.
Assist in the delivery and development of a progressive learning environment for clinical team members working in the perioperative environment within St Bartholomew’s Hospital
Support the development of Registered Staff; Health care Support Worker and both pre-post registration students in by coordinating educational activities and assessments of learning within the clinical setting

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. NMC/HCPC registration
2. Relevant first degree or equivalent
3. Appropriate peri-operative post registration course
4. Mentorship course or equivalent teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
5. Post Graduate Certificate in Education
6. Masters or working towards
Experience
Essential criteria
7. Theatre scrub experience in relevant theatre setting at Band 6 level or above
8. Experience in multiple surgical specialities including cardiac surgery
9. Experience in delivering teaching and training
10. Evidence of participation in quality improvement
Desirable criteria
11. Experience in Theatre co-ordination and team management
12. Experience in leading in clinical audit and delivery of outcomes
13. Experience of managing challenging situations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
14. Understand change management and service development
15. Knowledgeable of current professional issues in nursing
16. In depth skill and technical knowledge of at least one relevant surgical specialty
17. Aware of service improvement specifications e.g. NHS framework, NICE guidelines, GIRFT
18. Knowledge and understanding of patient safety initiatives including WHO safe surgery.
