An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pathology IT Manager, with good interpersonal skills and a strong commitment to team working to join the Pathology service, across both the Chelsea and Sutton sites.
The major focus of the role will be the implementation of the Digital strategy within the overall Pathology service area, acting as a subject matter expert in complex programmes delivering digital-enabled transformation. These include providing support for the implementation of digital pathology as part of our histopathology modernization programme and for the digital element of new service delivery and digital infrastructure within our cutting edge Clinical Genomics laboratories.
Completion of full integration of the service following the recent Epic LIMS/EPR implementation is another key focus.
The post holder will be responsible for managing Pathology IT services and a team of 4 staff including a deputy and three system administrators.
Applicants must have a relevant higher degree or equivalent, HCPC registration, evidence of post-registration study and management skills training. This is a full time post.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in the implementation of the Digital strategy within the overall Pathology service area, acting as a subject matter expert in complex programmes delivering digital-enabled transformation. These include the implementation of digital pathology and enabling the digital element of new service delivery and digital infrastructure within our cutting edge Clinical Genomics laboratories
The role will provide advice to executive bodies, the service and wider Trust groups on Pathology IT issues and future strategies based on changing technologies and legislation or guidelines; ensuring that digital solutions continue to meet user and stakeholder needs, ensuring minimal clinical risk to patients and financial risk to the service.
The post holder will be responsible for Pathology IT service delivery as directed by the Trust’s Pathology Management team, ensuring the smooth, safe, and reliable operation of all IT systems used by the Pathology service across all sites on a 24 x 7 basis and keeping users and managers aware of any issues.
The role will be responsible for Quality and Governance of IT systems within the service, ensuring provision of training for service staff in the use of IT systems and documentation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To build and manage a robust service model according to best practice principles (e.g. ITIL v4.0), offering responsive first and second-line support to pathology service users.
2. To manage and oversee the day to day running of pathology IT solutions, ensuring support processes are in place and system outputs satisfy the needs of the users.
3. To have an in-depth knowledge of the LIMS solutions in use across the Trust and externally, and how each interacts, including effective incident and change management.
4. To lead on service reviews with suppliers to ensure effective performance management of the overall Pathology IT service.
5. To monitor the service received from internal service providers (e.g. Digital Services) and system suppliers and escalate any significant concerns as appropriate.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
6. MSc Biomedical Science or IT/digital qualification or equivalent experience
7. Evidence of participation in mandatory courses and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Desirable criteria
8. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
9. ITIL v3.0 (or higher) Foundation qualification or above
10. Prince 2 foundation qualification or above
Experience
Essential criteria
11. Extensive technical systems management in a complex stakeholder environment
12. Significant IT service management and delivery experience in a clinical setting
13. Significant IT change management experience
14. Successful track record of delivering high-pressure and high-profile projects
15. Experienced in staff management
16. Experienced in project management or delivering within a formal project framework
17. Experience of producing quality documentation for systems implementation, validation, and operation
18. Experience of liaising with suppliers and technical delivery teams
Desirable criteria
19. Significant experience of managing multiple hospital systems, preferably within Pathology
20. Significant experience of working across Change programmes and BAU simultaneously
21. Experience of infrastructure, networking and server configuration management

23. Excellent analytical skills for understanding complex workflows, change impact assessment, and troubleshooting
24. Highly capable of autonomous working and setting out clear workplans for staff
25. Advanced understanding of Pathology IT solutions, and how they integrate (e.g. analyser interfaces)
26. Knowledgeable of information security and data protection with regards to patient and clinical information
27. Wide-ranging pathology knowledge with understanding across multiple pathology disciplines
28. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across organizations, including suppliers
29. Produces clear verbal communication and written reports
30. Strong delivery focus and able to meet tight deadlines within the pressures of working in a busy environment
31. Familiarity with quality management systems and procedures including their application to IT systems

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff
At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
