Lead Mechanical Development Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Lead Mechanical Development Engineer with a strong background in mechanical engineering, specifically focused on glass-to-metal seals and military/aerospace connectors. This role plays a crucial part in developing high-performance interconnect solutions for critical applications in aerospace and defence industries. The Lead Engineer will oversee product design, guide junior engineers, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
The Lead Mechanical Development Engineer's main responsibilities:
1. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and conduct design reviews
2. Work with sales on engineering feasibility and assess new project opportunities
3. Lead the NPI lifecycle from concept to manufacturing, including quoting and cost analysis
4. Manage ERP documentation, create manufacturing specifications, and control configuration
5. Conduct customer technical discussions and ensure compliance with AS9100 standards
What the Lead Mechanical Development Engineer will need to bring:
1. Minimum 7 years in mechanical engineering, ideally with a focus on materials science / glass-to-metal seals
2. Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA) and FEA tools; strong understanding of project management and manufacturing processes
3. Strong adaptability, customer focus, and leadership skills
4. Educated to degree level in relevant engineering discipline
