The role
The Fugro Environmental team within the Marine Site Characterisation business line is now looking for a Senior Marine Environmental Scientist, specialising in marine mammals and underwater noise to support the environmental survey and reporting functions undertaken in our Edinburgh Heriot Watt University campus office. This role will be based from our waterfront office in Portchester, Hampshire.
Working as a pivotal part of the team you will be responsible for leading marine mammal/protected species and passive acoustic surveys on a variety of vessels world-wide, production of high-quality technical reports, in addition to training, mentoring and managing survey and reporting personnel.
The Marine Environmental team specialises in environmental site characterisation and environmental monitoring. The data we collect enables our clients and regulatory organisations to fully understand the effects of developments and activities in the coastal and marine environment.
Your key responsibilities will include line management of survey and reporting staff. You will be leading all aspects of surveys from the mobilisation, calibration and deployment of survey equipment and monitoring the data acquired to processing samples, accurate log keeping and demobilisation administration. When in the office your key responsibilities will include leading our various styles of technical reports, providing technical input, review and quality control of report deliverables and training staff in collecting, arranging, interpreting and presenting survey data and results within these reports.
You will ensure all activities are carried out to company specific standards and are in line with our QHSSE policies.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
1. BSc in Marine Science, Environmental Science, or equivalent;
2. Experience of undertaking marine mammal/protected species observation surveys, passive acoustic monitoring and underwater noise surveys;
3. Experience of technical report writing with specialist knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines: marine mammals/protected species, underwater noise/mitigation or environmental legislation;
4. Project or team leader experience;
5. Good Microsoft Office capabilities;
6. Excellent organisational, presentation and communication skills;
7. Proven ability to work to deadlines.
Desirable
8. MSc or PhD in Marine Science or Environmental Science or relevant equivalent;
9. Experience leading marine environmental surveys;
10. Experience in monitoring seabirds at sea surveys;
11. Experience of statistical analysis;
12. Experience of geographic information system (GIS) software;
13. Experience of interpreting geophysical data;
14. Report review and quality control experience;
15. Clean driving licence;
16. Renewables industry experience.
