Job Summary
As an Administrative Assistant with TAS you will work closely with the Nursing team to provide administrative support as well as caring for patients. This involves performing as part of a team in order to ensure the smooth daily running of the unit. Most importantly, it means maintaining the highest standards of care and effectiveness.
Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) in NHS Blood & Transplant is a vital area of modern healthcare, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. The Therapeutic Apheresis Services team delivers a range of therapeutic apheresis procedures for patients across the country. These include performing stem cell harvests and white cell depletions; providing plasma exchanges for neurology, renal and haematology patients; carrying out red cell exchanges for patients with sickle cell disease.
Main duties of the job
In this role within our Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) Unit you will be the first point of contact for internal and external colleagues as well as patients and donors. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Co-ordinating the administration for the unit including dealing with telephone calls, updating and organising diaries, collation of test results and filing of confidential patient/donor information
2. Working on your own as well as part of a small administrative team and a larger team of specialist nurses
3. Recording data for a variety of aspects on spreadsheets
4. Supporting your line manager with meeting arrangements, which includes booking meeting rooms, creating agendas and minute taking
5. Attending training and development sessions at locations across the country
6. After training, operating basic therapeutic apheresis equipment
During busy times, you will be required to support members of the nursing team by providing basic care for patients, donors and visitors attending the unit. This will include welcoming people on to the unit, making refreshments and helping patients and donors who may feel nervous
You will be working across the different sites that TAS London provide services to – Managing patient files, stock management, and supporting Specialist Nurse with administrative work.

Qualifications and Training
7. Minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Maths or equivalent qualification eg NVQ Level 2, BTEC level 2 OR equivalent experience
8. Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development
Experience and Knowledge
9. Knowledge and experience of working with a range of electronic forms of communication e.g. email, internet
10. Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and Outlook)
11. Knowledge of confidentiality and General Data Protection Regulation issues
