An exciting opportunity for a Category Manager has become available at our Head Office, reporting to the Commercial Director. The role will involve assisting to create, deliver, and own a clear and customer-focused strategy for product categories in Heavyside and Timber, to deliver growth in customer sales, profit, and market share, in line with set management targets.
Person & Skills
The successful candidate will have prior experience in Category Management, buying, or sales/branch management, and possess a commercial mindset and full comprehension of buying, marketing, and sales principles. They will have an understanding of data analysis and forecasting methods to determine industry and customer requirements. Excellent drive and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to be influential and proactive.
Key Tasks
1. Negotiate supply agreements and manage suppliers in line with agreed SLA’s and KPI’s.
2. Develop long-term strategies for the ranges and products within your assigned categories.
3. Take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of your assigned categories, ensuring they meet the commercial performance criteria and targets set out by your Line Managers.
4. Ensure selling prices are in line with pricing policy set out by your Line Managers.
5. Build and develop trust relationships with suppliers to achieve better quality of service.
6. Forecast product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory and product supply.
7. Analyse data to determine industry and customer trends and identify business opportunities.
8. Working with the branches, specify what products will be stocked, where, and in what quantities.
9. Develop exit strategies for any unsuccessful products and work with the stock controllers and production team to keep stockholding to an optimal level.
10. Ensure aged stock products are kept to a minimum in line with set targets.
11. Communicate to sales/branch teams all relevant product and supplier information, including shortages and promotions.
