Phlebotomist Post

Major Oak Medical Practice is looking for a flexible, enthusiasticand self-motivated Phlebotomist to join our dedicated and professional team.This is a part time post for 25 hours per week Monday to Friday. Salary is dependenton experience.

Main duties of the job
1. Collection of sample(s)s of blood in accordance with training and practice protocols
2. Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers
3. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity
4. Maintaining accurate patient records on SystmOne
5. To undertake venepuncture and observations including blood pressure, urinalysis, height, weight and BMI, temperature, take ear, throat and skin swabs as directed by the GP/practice nurse, etc..
6. Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure
7. Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.
8. Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff at Sherwood Forest Hospital Trust
9. Provide smoking support by signposting to local smoking cessation services.
10. Carrying out daily cleaning of GPs rooms as per daily schedule.
11. Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
12. Carrying out monthly checks of the medication cupboard ensuring enough stock is stored and are kept in date
13. Deal with spillages blood and bodily fluid.
14. Assisting the GPs with chaperone duties.
15. Action own tasks regularly without any delays
16. Home visits if required
17. Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues
18. Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters

Job responsibilities
Workingunder the direct supervision of the lead practice nurse and as part of thepractice multidisciplinary team and strictly in accordance with specific practiceguidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performingvenepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only asrequested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will beexpected to support the nursing team on an as required basis.
