You play an important role in the department, maintaining systems and performing tasks and activities that support our continuous improvement (CI) processes and culture. You help with data collection, ensure its accuracy, promote CI progress and keep track of the department KPI scorecards.
This is a key role in the implementation of Capital Projects and provide technical & engineering support on the Chirk site (and across the UK chocolate network). To carry out investigation, design, contractor management and engineering project management (including cost and programme management). To ensure compliance with safety, quality and environmental requirements during project development, project execution and commissioning, and following hand over to production. To act as project leader and manage other department members or contract staff (, process / mechanical / electrical / controls) as part of the project team and work closely with Business Development Manager and Site Leadership Team to ensure that engineering solutions support business requirements and fit with the long-term site development plan.
This will require a broad range of specialist project management and engineering skills. The role holder will directly manage several projects and be responsible for projects that could have values up to £500K value.
How you will contribute
1. Designs for new NPD and factory development projects are developed, working closely with Manufacturing and BD&E where required.
2. Detailed engineering design and specifications and developed for authorised Capital projects to meet requirements of safety, quality and hygiene at optimum output and efficiency, and lowest cost.
3. Systems are reverse engineered where information does not exist.
4. Existing practices, methods and technology are challenged and opportunities to improve factory productivity, safety and quality are proactively sought.
5. A thorough understanding of all aspects of cocoa bean processing, including cocoa beverage powder manufacture, packing and services, is developed, and external supplier developments are kept up to date with.
6. Technical & engineering input and support is provided to drive the site’s commercial and operational performance objectives.
7. Tender packages are prepared and reviewed, tender returns are evaluated, peer reviews conducted, and commercial terms are negotiated.
8. Contractors and others carrying out work on site are supervised and managed.
9. Plants are commissioned to achieve specified quality and output targets within the commissioning timescales in line with IIM and CQV requirements.
10. Solutions to problems are recommended so that they can be designed out to reduce operating costs, improve product quality, and improve safety performance.
11. Project costs are managed using ERP tools (SAP and Coupa) and capital spend is managed and forecast.
12. Coaching, development & support is provided to other members of the BD&E team, factory based technical personnel (and to the wider Mondelez organisation if required / appropriate).
Support and expertise in the application of GMP and Sanitary design standards across the sites is provided, developing and sharing best practices across the MEU network

13. Ability to motivate and develop onsite personnel and communicate across a broad range of management levels and functional areas.
14. Ability to organise your own time, manage your own agenda around site priorities.
15. Experience in a high-volume manufacturing industry, preferably food, beverages or pharmaceutical.
16. Experience in working with Milk Evaporators, Cleaning in place systems, Milk processing preferable.
17. Significant experience in the identification and delivery of process improvement practices.
18. Demonstrated experience in project delivery in high volume manufacturing environments.
19. Demonstrable continual professional development
20. Computer skills – spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), scheduling (MS Project), word processing (Microsoft Word), graphics (PowerPoint), SAP, PLC Software (Rockwell preferable) & SCADA screens.
21. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Qualification Requirements
The following qualifications are required for this role.
22. BEng/MEng in Chemical or Process engineering
23. Chartered status preferred
