This post is an exciting new opportunity for a midwife who will develop and support the Safeguarding agenda within the maternity services. The post holder is responsible for ensuring that high standards of care are upheld at all times.
Working with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding, the post holder will take responsibility for ensuring Safeguarding processes are followed to ensure families receive high quality appropriate care.
Working in collaboration with the maternity team and external agencies the post holder will be expected to participate in care planning and assessment of the pregnant person and their families where there are Safeguarding concerns.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work in collaboration between the Midwifery workforce and safeguarding teams working alongside external agencies, e.g. Substances misuse workers, Social Care and Health, Police, Criminal Justice, Mental Health, Domestic Violence, other support and voluntary agencies.
The post holder will work alongside the Named Midwife for Safeguarding to ensure that the pregnant person and their families with Safeguarding issues receive appropriate care, support, and guidance, by developing Midwifery Services to address the needs of this client group.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to the pregnant person and families
2. Work in partnership with other health care professionals and liaise with other agencies involved in the provisions of maternity services and seek advice from the Named Midwife as required.
3. In conjunction with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding work closely with external agencies in care planning and assessment of the pregnant person and their families where there are safeguarding concerns
4. Deputise for the Named Midwife for Safeguarding when required
5. Engage in other public health initiatives and projects-especially in relation to improving outcomes for the pregnant person and their family with Safeguarding and/ or socially complex health concerns.
6. Contribute to pre-birth assessments and case conference as required ensuring effective sharing of information.
7. Support midwives to complete domestic abuse risk assessments and MARAC referrals when required and how to contact IDVA

Experience
Essential criteria
8. Registered midwife with extensive experience
9. Experience of working with vulnerable mothers
10. Knowledge of safeguarding processes
Desirable criteria
11. Degree or masters module in safeguarding
