Fire Safety Advisor
Job Purpose:
To deliver the provision of a comprehensive and effective fire safety service across all Trust owned or operated properties.

£22 - £22.50 PAYE Inclusive of Holiday Pay

Working Days and Hours: Mon-Fri 9:00am-5:00pm (37.5 hrs per week)
Duties:
1. Ensure compliance with all regulatory provisions regarding fire safety in all Trust owned or operated properties.
2. Conduct a program of fire risk assessments in all Trust occupied premises, working to the standards in Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Health Technical Memorandums (HTM's), Building Regulations, British Standards and other relevant documentation.
3. Undertake overarching fire risk assessments in complex hospital buildings, ensuring efficacy of shared arrangements, horizontal evacuation and compartmentation.
4. Ensure all wards, departments and units have local plans in place detailing actions to be taken in case of fire.
5. Conduct a comprehensive program of fire drills across all Trust occupied premises.
6. Maintain structured records of all risk assessments, evacuation plans, fire drills, and training.
7. Produce and maintain structured electronic records of reports, assessments, drills, and fire safety training programmes.
8. Compile end of month and annual fire safety statistics, analyse and produce reports.
9. Investigate all incidents of fires and fire alarm actuations, monitoring trends to assist the Trust in learning from incidents.
10. Maintain an up-to-date resource base of legislation and codes of practice.
11. Conduct fire safety audits as required.
12. Formulate and deliver a suitable program of fire safety training to approximately 4500 staff.
13. Review Trust fire-related policies and procedures with the Head of Safety and Compliance.
14. Support the Head of Safety and Compliance in producing an annual report for the Trust Board.
15. Advise and liaise with staff and management regarding fire safety matters.
16. Plan, organise, conduct and report on emergency planning exercises, focusing on fire scenarios.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. Fire engineering/Engineering science, or fire/fire safety degree; or extensive experience in fire safety.
2. Certificate in training practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training.
3. Membership of a professional organisation (e.g., the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)).
4. Experience in undertaking fire risk assessments.
5. Experience of preparing and delivering training courses.
6. Experience of working across organisational boundaries to improve standards.
7. Ability to set up portable fire simulator trainer weighing approx. 20kg.
8. Good mobility to access certain work environments.
9. Moderate physical effort required as duties dictate.
10. Understanding of the complexity of issues across the whole Trust impacting fire safety.
11. Frequent requirement to sit at a computer and write up assessments, reports, and action plans.
12. Occasional requirement to work outdoors.
13. In-depth knowledge of Firecode, Health Building Notes, and Building Regulations Approved Document B (fire safety).
14. In-depth knowledge of fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation, and codes of practice.
15. Hold a current driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business purposes.
