Vacancy: Metallurgist

We are looking for a Metallurgist for our site in London to assist with the development of the technical understanding of the smelting opportunities within the Johnson Matthey Brimsdown and China sites and be responsible for supporting the design, installation, commissioning, development, and improvement of the relevant pyrometallurgical smelting processes. The work will involve monitoring and analysis of process data in conjunction with laboratory, pilot and plant scale development and commissioning trials. The role will be based at the Brimsdown operations with remote technical support to the Zhangjiagang smelting operations and other commercial customers.

Your responsibilities:
Adhere to high EHS standards and behaviours for yourself and your co-workers.
Learn about pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, thermal and concentration processes in conjunction with production, customers, external technology suppliers, JMTC and other members of the technical team.
Undertake pyrometallurgical bench, pilot and plant scale experimental work.
Be data driven through the evaluation of pyrometallurgical process chemistry, statistical reviews of the process related data and plant integrity monitoring of process/production related trends.
Communicate results through informative and engaging presentations and reports of experimental work and process related reviews.
Carry out root cause analysis of incidents that occur within the sites, hazard studies for new and existing processes and promote high standards in EHS/Process Safety
Requirements for the role:
Degree in Metallurgical Engineering (or similar) based subjects.
Understanding of phase diagrams and thermodynamic databases / modelling software such as FactSage or MTData
Full understanding of mass and energy balances, P&IDs and PFDs and other process docs
An ability to provide innovative solutions to problems.
Experience with high temperature furnace operation, flux chemistry and furnace optimization.
Experience with refractory chemistry, selection, and failure analysis.
Full understanding of hazard studies
