Scout Recruiting is supporting our Peterborough based client in hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years similar experience and educated up to Degree level in Mechanical Engineering. You will report to the Design Engineer Manager and work in a team of 5 in an open plan, busy office.
There will be some travel involved in the role, visiting clients in the UK or Europe.
After your initial training period you’re able to work from home 2 days per week so this will be a hybrid role. The company also offer a fantastic flexi time scheme allowing you to work around traffic and family.
This is a full-time permanent position Monday to Friday. The salary is Circa £38.000 plus a host of excellent non salaried benefits including bonus and flexi time.
Key responsibilities:
• Develop new machines designs using SolidWorks and CAD to technical requirements, budgets and KPI’s.
• Create complete manufacturing/assembly drawings, parts lists and bills of materials for issue.
• Review and sign off on colleagues designs and drawings on PDM system.
• Review parts list and bills of materials on ERP system.
• Oversee machine designs for current project contracts.
• Update and improve existing designs with all relevant documentation for NC system.
• Create Risk Assessments and all relevant paperwork for the technical file.
• Undertake calculations to ratify designs.
Skills required:
• 5 years minimum in Mechanical Design
• BEng, MEng, HND, HNC etc in Mechanical Engineering
• Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) for both 3D and 2D modelling.
• Skilled in creating high-quality technical manufacturing and assembly drawings, incorporating views, dimensions, tolerances, welding symbols, and datums.
• Ability to perform simulations and conduct FMEA analysis is desirable.
• Proven experience in mechanical design, preferably within the heavy industry sector.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrication, and welding for external manufacturing.
• Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems desirable
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
