Due to continued growth, we have a new opportunity to join a commercial vehicle and trailer manufacturing company located in the heart of Cheshire. We design and manufacture a wide range of HGV trailers and rigid bodywork, supplying major fleet operators across the United Kingdom. We are looking for an experienced and engaging Health & Safety Officer to join the team.
Ideally someone with previous exposure in a Heavy Engineering environment. This role is ideally suited to someone who is looking for a hands on, challenging, and people centric role in a company where your skills and contributions will be valued and rewarded.
Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, you will be responsible for executing the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) roadmap on the factory floor, at a purpose-built factory in Winsford, and undertaking administrative duties associated with maintenance and assurance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide guidance and technical support to the production management and supervisory teams to ensure legal compliance with OHS acts, regulations, and best practice.
* Mentoring the supervisory and management team members to achieve OSH excellence in support of the OSH road map.
* Implementing OHS systems and processes.
* Support the management and supervisory teams to investigate incidents and the identification of root causes.
* Undertake weekly OHS audits and produce accurate reports of those audits.
* Undertake new employee, contractor and visitor inductions.
* Identify equipment requiring repair and quarantine pending repair.
* Liaise with procurement to identify Personal Protective Equipment opportunities.
* Respond to fire alarm activations and coordinate emergency response on the factory floor.
* Deputise for the Head of Head & Safety during leave or absence.
* Provide weekly OHS reports for the management team.
* Execute planned and breakdown maintenance on mobile equipment and overhead cranes.
* Execute statutory inspections on cranes, lifting accessories and mobile equipment.
* Manage maintenance service providers to provide the most cost-effective service.
* Produce monthly reports on maintenance costs.
* Manage the protective coverall service provider.
* Draft purchase orders for maintenance activities
* Manage training providers for cranes, FLTs, trailer movers, shunters, First Aid, and ensure all employees hold valid certification
* Undertake one very early hours start per month to interact with the night shift.
The role will be focused on providing administrative support to the OHS function and influencing behaviours and encouraging compliance on the factory floor. The incumbent must relish and thrive on employee interaction, to develop the production team's ownership and competence in managing OHS. There is a requirement for one night shift/very early start once a month to interact with the night shift team. A high level of data input accuracy and extraction for report drafting is necessary for the role.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Must be a confident individual able to develop relationships and influence factory floor managers, supervisors, and employees.
* Previous factory floor experience in a similar role in the Heavy Engineering sector is desirable.
* Ability to work under pressure and respond to dynamic and time sensitive demands is required.
* Detailed understanding and experience of simultaneous crane operations would be highly desirable.
* A member of a recognised Safety Institution, with evidence of CPD is required.
* Must have an OSH qualification, recognised by IOSH and post qualification experience in an OSH role.
* Detailed knowledge and application of LOLER & PUWER legislation & MEWP operations.
* An adult teaching qualification such as PTTLLS is desirable.
* Must be able to produce documentation, such as risk assessments and safe systems of work to a high standard and right first time.
* Appointed person for lifting qualification desirable.
* Experience of construction projects and managing construction contractors would be advantageous. Must be confident with understanding and implement CDM 2015 in the role of client and principle contractor.
* Experience of implementing HAVS reduction measures desirable.
* Excellent IT skills including MS Office. Must be confident compiling reports accurately.
