Location: Buttershaw, Bradford, hybrid working ( 1 office day a week – Bradford ), with regular regional travel across multiple sites
Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

As a Lead Rural Surveyor you will be an integral part of the Estates Team in the Land and Property department at Yorkshire Water. Reporting directly into the Senior Estates Manager, you will be at the forefront of managing one of Yorkshire’s largest land holdings. Your workload will be incredibly varied from relating strategies and national objectives into managing a rural estate, achieving, and maintaining compliance, dealing with landlord and tenant matters, disposals and acquisitions, undertaking inspections, helping to answer estate enquiries to dealing with alternative land use and environmental considerations. In addition, you will also be assisting a project team in identifying, planning and delivering maintenance and capital works across the rural estate. Regional travel will be required.
Where you fit in:
As our Lead Rural Surveyor you will
• Responsible for the management of the tenanted rural land and properties working with internal/ external stakeholders and contract partners to ensure the rural estate is managed efficiently and compliantly
• Provide expert advice to Yorkshire Water on property acquisitions and disposals, Landlord/ Tenant issues and general estate matters in relation to the implementation of the company’s strategy
• Working with project teams in identifying, planning and delivering programs of works across the estate
• Managing all aspects of the day to day running of the rural estate including helping to answer estate enquiries and dealing with landlord and tenant matters
• Working with internal and external stakeholders to problem solve and identify risks and opportunities throughout the estate
• Supporting the Senior Estates Manager to deliver financial targets, provide regular reporting and to ensure annual and 5 yearly business strategy targets are achieved
• Lead a programme of farm audit inspections and reporting, assessing land condition across the estate in accordance with catchment land management requirements
• Mentoring colleagues including supporting apprentice and graduate surveyors by providing APC guidance
What skills & qualifications you will need:
• MRICS and CAAV qualifications
• A demonstratable track record of managing rural estates, or similar, to a high standard
• Experience visiting/ inspecting different types of land and property
• Evidence of successfully delivering estates projects to budget and time
• Excellent and demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety regulations
• People management experience
• Extensive knowledge and experience of the legal and regulatory requirements relating to the ownership, management, purchase and sale of land and property
• Extensive knowledge of national issues impacting rural estate management

• Knowledge of the water industry and/ or experience working in a regulated environment
We embrace a flexible working model, where our hybrid setup typically requires an average of 1 day in the office per week. This could be slightly more when collaborative efforts, training or meeting deadlines demand it. For those who prefer to work on-site, our office is open Monday-Friday during working hours.
