Volunteer Driver
Location: Surbiton
Time commitment: Flexible
Who we are
At SeeAbility we specialise in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, who may also have sight loss, to realise their goals each and every day.
We encourage people with disabilities to challenge what they expect from life, from themselves and from wider society.
Registered as The Royal School for the Blind, SeeAbility is one of the oldest disability charities in the UK and has pioneered specialist support for over 220 years.
What you’ll be doing
You will play an important role in the lives of those in need of a friendly driver. Many of the people we support have their own specially adapted vehicles, so you will need to be happy to drive these. You will make a difference by being a reliable driver to take them to appointments and activities.
Skills required
1. To be a confident driver with a full clean driver’s licence
2. To be able to assist when necessary with sighted guidance/orientation
3. To be kind and friendly, empathetic and patient
4. To be reliable and punctual.
To ensure the safety of the people we support, we require a DBS check and two satisfactory references before a volunteer role is confirmed. As you will be volunteering directly with vulnerable individuals, you will also be required to undertake safeguarding training, as well as any training which is specific to the role.
The difference you’ll make
Becoming one of our friendly volunteer drivers provides a key service to the people we support, ensuring they feel safe on their journey, helping them to attend appointments and increasing opportunities to get out and about.
Benefits to the volunteer
This is a fantastic opportunity to give something positive back to society and have a direct impact on someone’s life. Driving is a great way to get out and about, meet new people and help others.
